Since its founding in 1992, the Society has worked continuously to research, protect, develop, and educate about the many historic and heritage aspects of Carrick-on-Shannon and its catchment area. For a town of its size, Carrick has a remarkable number of individuals, sites and events associated with it since its Corporation Charter of 1613. The Society has amassed a large collection of books, papers, artefacts, and memorabilia that are indexed and/or on display in the Heritage Centre. From time to time the Society sponsors printing of books of special interest.
A membership organisation open to all interested persons, the Society meets monthly as well as offering monthly lectures or events for most of year. Current annual membership fees are €25 individual and €30 family, giving members free attendance at most events.
